As promised that afternoon Andrea came back to pick up the mares left in the farther meadow of the stables, near the hillside. She was now near the fence, the view was gorgeous and even from there she could see the horses silhouettes. Once she got next to the gate she had a better view and so she counted "black one, flaxen chestnut one, silver bay one and black other..."
she stopped and blikned "...four horses!?"
The horses raised their head from the hay, the mares trotted toward the girl while the massive black horse dashed away through the snow. Andrea quickly took her phone and captured a picture of the horse before it jumped over the fence and dissapeared in the forest, running to the mountains.
At dawn the mares where in their respective stalls and Andrea went inside the house. "Daaaad!"
she called. "Over here Andrea"
the voice sounded from the living room, Thomas was sitted on his sofa next to the fire. "Dad you won't believe it! Today I went to the hillside meadow and guess what I found there"
she said with a big grin passing her phone to Thomas. The moment he saw the picture his eyes widenned "Can... can it be?"
he mumbled. "What? You know the horse?"
Andrea asked with a puzzled expression looking at her father who seemed excited about the discovery. "Do you see that? This horse has a high set tail like arabians and yet he has a kind of draft build; do you know what that means?"
a nostalgic smile crossed his face "Right, you are too young to know. Well, how to start... When I was a child your grandfather told me about this once young man called James A. Warden, an english man who's passion where horses. He was the only child from a rich family but he never felt attached to his homeland so at the age of 18 he left with a friend from here to live some where in Lika. He was decided to create an elegant show breed and so he did. Wardeners where famous on James time, he was the only one who breeded them, he never sold any exemplar and only his friend showed them in events, he's name was Joseph. Time passed, the breed got refined, there where 20 unreleated horses, all of them silver maned and breeders began to crave more and more for this horses but Warden wasn't interested on letting them be breeded to others, and that's when everything went wrong."
"One night the stalls where set on fire... Joseph...."
Andrea saw a shade of sadness on her father's eyes before he continued "...my grandfather ran inside and saved as many horse he could but he couldn't make his way out and he die in there. James never recovered from that, as not even a horse appeared later he was broke and he could not stand his friend decesead so at the end he hung himself. No one ever saw the horses again, some people said that they left to the mountains with Posavac's or Hladnokrvnjak's herds but they disappear. This Andrea, this photo tells the true, they're alive".
